Original publication and holotype designation: Prasad, B.N. & Asthana, D.K. (1979). Awadhiella - a new genus of Coleochaetaceae from India. Hydrobiologia 62: 131-135.
Description: Thallus microscopic, heterotrichous; fixed to the substratum; filaments branched; erect filaments well-developed; setae similar to Coleochaete; cells uninucleate; chloroplast parietal. Asexual reproduction by zoospores . Sexual reproduction oogamous; antheridia contain several antherozoids; oogonia large, beaked; trichogyne absent . Fertilization in-situ. Oospore 1 or 2, with two-layered wall; exospore ornamented. Sterile cortications absent.
