Adenoides Balech, 1956

Holotype species: Adenoides eludens (Herdman) Balech

Original publication and holotype designation: Balech, E. (1956). Étude des Dinoflagellés du sable de Roscoff. Revue Algologique, Nouvelle Serie 2: 29-52.

Description: Small to medium-sized (20-30 µm) flagellate with a highly reduced epicone, deeply impressed cingulum, and a large hypocone. Sulcus forms a slight depression on the anterior third of the hypocone. Plate formula according to Balech (1956): Po, 3', 5", 4c, 6s, 5"', 1"", but according to Dodge and Lewis (1986): Po, 3', 5c, 6s, 4"', 5p, 1"". The hypothecal plates 3p and 4p, according to Dodge and Lewis (1986), each has a prominent pore. Numerous small brownish chloroplasts. Sexual reproduction and cyst formation not known. Marine, living in sandy beaches. Emended F. Gómez, R. Onuma, Artigas & Horiguchi (2015: 127). Emended H.Gu, Chomérat & Siano (2018: 189).
