Holotype species: Brasiliella helix C.Zimmermann

Original publication and holotype designation: Zimmermann, S.J., C. (1918). Algumas Diatomaceas novas on curiosas. Broteria (Ciencias Naturais), Serie Botanica 16: 84-95, 4 pls.

Description: Growth habit not known. Valve outline strongly sigmoid-linear with recurved apices. Axial area narrow, eccentric. Striae uniseriate, parallel (10 striae in 10 &m), punctate (9 puncta in 10 &m). Valve face with medial, transverse thickening. This taxon has only been recorded from the marine littoral habitat of Brazil. Although no living or intact frustules were observed, the author believed this taxon is planktonic.
