Description: Small (13-20 µm long), slightly dorsoventrally compressed flagellate with two heterodynamic flagella. Transverse flagellum in the slightly displaced cingulum, separating the small episome (about 1/5 of total body length) from the large, sack-shaped hyposome. Longitudinal flagellum in the long sulcus. Cell wall composed of cellulosic plates, perforated by many trichocyst pores. Plate formula : Po, 4a, 1a, 7", 5c, 4s, 6"', 2"". A ventral pore is surrounded by plates 1',3' and 7". Nucleus and chloroplasts of the dinokaryotic type, the latter with stalked pyrenoid which is surrounded by a starch sheet.

Comments: Habitat : Marine, wet sand of sandy beaches or surface of dead corals in Japan and South Africa, perhaps common in tropical and subtropical waters. Cells may attach to surfaces but can swim also rapidly.
