Holotype species: Chrysodesmis gloeophila Starmach

Original publication and holotype designation: Starmach, K. (1970). Chrysodesmis gloeophila, a new genus and species of Chrysophyceae. Acta Hydrobiologica 12: 191-196.

Description: Cells globular, single or, after division, two together, terminally on dichotomously branched gelatinous stalks. Cell wall thin, chloroplast bowl-shaped basal. Reproduction by longitudinal division. Swarmers and stomatocysts unknown. Found in freshwater, in the jelly of Batrachospermum; Poland.
