Cymatodiscus N.I. Hendey, 1958

Holotype species: Cymatodiscus planetophorus (F.Meister) Hendey

Description: Cells solitary. Valves elliptic, slightly bent on the long axis throwing the valve face into two planes; central area of the valve face strongly depressed, furnished with large scattered papillose puncta. Beyond the central area the puncta are irregularly crowded into radiating striae, decreasing in size as they approach the margin. Margin furnished with processes, 1-2 at each pole and 2 on one rim about equidistant from the terminal puncta. Until EM studies of Cymatodiscus are completed, it is not possible to place this genus in its correct suborder. This rarely reported taxon has been recorded in the plankton from Saigon and on artifical substrates from the West African coast.
