Description: Thallus erect or decumbent, blade-like, thin and membranous, lobed or with broad divisions, attached by a thickened holdfast; if decumbent anchored by marginal rhizoids or peg-like protuberances on ventral or marginal surfaces. Growth by obliquely dividing marginal cells. Structure monostromatic. Spermatangia in ±oval sori, coalescing laterally as they mature, located near the margins. Cystocarps seemingly randomly scattered; carposporangia solitary. Tetrasporangia in well-defined sori near terminal margins or blade divisions, tetrahedrally divided.
