Description: Cells solitary; chromatophores two elongate bodies lying in valvar plane. Valves more or less lanceolate and convex. Axial area linear, narrow; raphe straight. Central area transapically dilated into a stauros which does not extend to the margin of the valve face, terminates at two longitudinal lines that proceed to the valve apices. Striae on valve face with transverse, punctate striae. Cingulum not complex. Rarely reported; broadly distributed in polar, temperate and tropical seas. This taxon, distinguished by the longitudinal lines that extend from the stauros to the apices, warrants further study.
