Fossil: This is a genus of fossil species, or a genus with a fossil type species, or a genus the type species of which was originally described as a fossil.

Description: Cells are solitary. The shell is low-cylindrical with a structureless search rim and several intercalated rims. The valves are round, from flat to concentrically wavy, sometimes slightly tangentially wavy. The central field is small; areolated unevenly. Structure of valves from locular areoles with external cribrum and internal foramen. Areoles arranged in radial rows forming wide wedge-shaped bundles. In each bundle, the rows of areoles are parallel to the middle row. The areole bundles are separated from each other by distinct hyaline stripes on the inner surface of the valve and by rib-like thickenings or ribs on its outer surface, often extending almost from the center. On the bend of the valve there is a marginal ring of two-lipped outgrowths, each of which is located at the base of the hyaline band.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
