Description: Thallus erect, occasionally with decumbent branches, attached by a discoid holdfast. Erect axes pseudodichotomously branched, polysiphonous; each segment with 4 pericentral cells and a persistent pigmented trichoblast, corticated by descending rhizoids originating from the pericentrals. Trichoblasts radially arranged in a quarter spiral, subalternately branched. Spermatangia arising on lower branch of trichoblasts; fertile section becoming polysiphonous and densely covered with spermatangia. Procarps borne on the second cell of short polysiphonous branchlets. Cystocarps spherical, occasionally with a prominent ostiole. Tetrasporangia in torulose glabrous stichidia on the lower branch of the trichoblast, 1 sporangium per segment in a spiral pattern.
