Description: Thalli colonial forming linear to irregular green to red or orange masses one cell thick, with cells embedded in thick gelatinous envelope. Cell walls smooth, with multiple stratified layers. Cells spherical to ellipsoidal, 10-18 &m in diameter. Cells ?uninucleate; chloroplast single and parietal with single pyrenoid. Asexual reproduction by autospores and biflagellate zoospores. Sexual reproduction unknown. Rhodoplax on rocks in freshwater waterfall; known only from single site on the Rhine near Schaffhouse. Genus poorly known and not mentioned in Komárek and Fott (1983); of uncertain taxonomic status.
