Listed p. 87 as Gomphonema Agardh (no desciption provided). 6 species are listed and described p. 88, no generitype designated. Pre-conservation lectotypification with G. acuminatum in ICBN 1952, p. 71. The name was originally conserved as of Hustedt 1930 (see ICBN 1956, p. 200, ref. 006916), the place of publication was taken back to Ehrenberg 1832 in ICBN 1961 (ref. 006910), p. 208.
