Hustedtia F.Meister, 1932

Holotype species: Hustedtia mirabilis F.Meister

Original publication and holotype designation: Meister, F. (1932). Kieselalgen aus Asien. pp. [1]-56, 19 pls. Berlin: Gebrüder Borntraeger.

Description: Valves semicircular with a more or less straight ventral margin. Fibulate raphe marginal. Striae radiate outward from a sternum ('pseudoraphe') which extends from the middle of the ventral margin to the center of the valve face. The type species was collected from Sabang, Indonesia in the Indian Ocean. Although some workers consider Hustedtia to be synonymous with Auricula (e. g., Ricard, 1987), Meister believed of the presence of a sternum in the former genus warranted its separation from Auricula.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
