Description: Thallus erect, cartilaginous, terete to clavate, simple to a few times dichotomously branched. Structure multiaxial; medulla filamentous; cortex pseudoparenchymatous, with several cell layers, the outermost with cells in anticlinal rows. Reproductive structures in nemathecia encircling the distal portion of thalli. Spermatangia catenate. Procarpic. Carpogonial branches lateral on nemathecial filaments, 2-celled, arising in clusters associated with an intercalary auxiliary cell. Gonimoblasts outwardly directed, arising from an auxiliary cell. Cystocarps small, numerous and closely aggregated, immersed in the nemathecia. Tetrasporangial nemathecia below branch apices, with tetrasporangia lateral on nemathecial filaments, cruciately to irregularly divided. Life history triphasic, with isomorphic gametophytes and tetrasporophytes.
