Description: Unicellular-colonial; colonies irregular, gelatinous, from above more or less flat or slimy granular, macroscopic, covering the substrate in a layer up to 35 cm (?) thick, composed of partial subcolonies, fine, in lower parts with calcium carbonate precipitations. Cells with their own gelatinous, slightly layered envelopes, joined to small parietal groups with wide slime, which are gathered within the common colony and form mucilaginous cell groups, flattened from all sides (irregularly polygonal subcolonies). Envelopes are partially thickened. Cells spherical. Cell division not described, probably in more planes in succeeding generations. Reproduction by small subcolonies. Both species described from oceanic coastal lagoons (Hawaii-Laysan, Bermuda Islands). Poorly known genus, which needs revision; probably synonymous with Chlorogloea,/u> Wille.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
