Description: Medium-sized cells (65-79 - 58-64 µm) in lateral view ovoid, in ventral view slightly pointed at the apical side. Divided by a slightly premedian and circular cingulum in a slightly smaller epicone and a hypocone. In ventral or dorsal view divided by a sagittal suture into a more or less equal left and right part. At least the hypotheca has, besides the major plates, an additional plate in the ventral area. On each left and right half is an enigmatic round "hill" which extends on epi- and hypotheca. This odd species is related by its author to Heteroschisma Kofoid and Skogsberg 1928. Sexual reproduction and cyst formation not known. Needs reinvestigation. Marine plankton, only known by its author from few specimens of the southern Adriatic Sea.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
