Description: Plants epiphytic on other algae, attached by small disc, growing solitarily, simple, filiform, soft, solid when young later becoming hollow, gelatinous, attenuated at the base, having indistinct stipe, at times twisted, yellowish brown in color, up to 30 cm in length and 5 mm in width when dried, haplostichous, composed of multiaxial colorless central medullary filaments of up to 35 _m in diameter, and pigmented assimilatory filaments of 2-6 cells long. Terminal cells of assimilatory filaments large and swollen, spherical or obovate. Cells next to terminal cells at times also swollen, however, the cells below them cylindrical and isodiametric. Unilocular sporangia formed on erect thalli at the end of medullary cells or a the base of assimilatory filaments, obovate or irregular in shape, sessile, 35-60 _m x 20-30 _m in size. plurilocular sporangia not detected on erect thalli. Each cells contain several chloroplasts with pyrenoids. Unispores biflagellated with longer anterior flagellum, pear shaped containing a chloroplast with a stigma, germinate into prostrate branched filaments developing into bushy microthalli forming uniseriate plurilocular sporangia. The whole life history not clear yet. Widely distributed in northern Pacific Ocean and Okhotsk Sea. Summer annual in inter tidal and subtidal zone. Obligately epiphytic on Analipus japonicus (Alaska to Vancouver) or Chordaria spp. (Japan) depending on the distributional area.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
