Description: Cells solitary. Frustules asymmetrical, valve face elliptical, with large elevated, raphe-bearing keels projected as hooks to full length of valves and offset to same side of frustule, hooks opposed on other side of valve by a conspicuous longitudinal dome; cingulum narrow. Valves symmetrical, narrowly elliptical with subacute apices; a robust elliptical dome that gradually tapers from the central area towards the apices is situated along the apical axis; keels eccentric, submarginal and formed into conspicuous hooks with the dorsal edge rising abruptly from the central raphe area and terminating in a high arch in line with girdle zone apices. The ventral keel surface merges into the valve face approximately two-thirds distance from the central raphe area to the apices. This marine and estuarine taxon was collected at Merton and in the Waikouaiti River estuary, South Island, New Zealand.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
