Original publication and holotype designation: Anand, P.L. (1937). A taxonomic study of the algae of the British chalk-cliffs. Journal of Botany, British and Foreign 75(Suppl. II): 1-51.

Description: Cells cylindrical, arranged in branched filaments. The cell, with a pectic wall, has one parietal chloroplast, and chrysolaminaran vacuoles. Swarmers and stomatocysts are unknown. Found on limestone cliffs bordering the English Channel.
