The type species (lectotype) of the genus Trachelomonas is Trachelomonas volvocina (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Trachelomonas bacillifera var. polonica Skvortzov.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), wide, broad; but also side, flank (Stearn 1973).
