The type species (lectotype) of the genus Campylodiscus is Campylodiscus clypeus (Ehrenberg) Ehrenberg ex Kützing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Campylodiscus hibernicus var. hungaricus (Pantocsek) Cleve-Euler.
