The type species (holotype) of the genus Halimeda is Halimeda tuna (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halimeda micronesica Yamada.

Type locality: Tumakid, Basilan Island, The Philippines; (Gilbert 1947: 126) Notes: Holotype in MICH (M.J. Wynne, pers. comm., 24 January 2017).
