The type species (holotype) of the genus Leptofauchea is Leptofauchea nitophylloides (J.Agardh) Kylin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Archestenogramma brasiliense (A.B.Joly) C.W.Schneider, Chengsupanimit & G.W.Saunders.

Type locality: Paranapoan beach, São Vicente, São Paulo State, Brazil; (Joly 1957: 131, 132) Holotype: Joly; 7 October 1953; in shade of rocks at harbour entrance; SPF?; Joly, 149-1953 (Joly 1957: 131, 132) Notes: Joly (1957: 131-133) notes that the type material (tetrasporophyte) is located in the Herbário ficológico do Departamento de Botânica da Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras da Universidade de São Paulo and that there are isotypes located at the main centres for phycological reseach. Dalen & Saunders (2007: 207) give the following data: Isotype ("Syntype") collections : A.B. Joly (tetrasporic), 7.x.1953, subtidal, from Paranapoan, St. Vincenti, Prov.St Pauli, Sao Paulo, Brazil, (herb. MICH--AB Joly149-1953: herb. UC - 056468)
