Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Asteromonas is Asteromonas gracilis Artari.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pyramimonas obovata N.Carter.
Type Information
Notes: No type locality or date given by Butcher (1959) but two years preciously he deposited a culture of this in the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Cambridge, as the type strain (LB 4/1) (Belcher et al, 1974). Widely distributed in subsaline to saline ponds and ditches, also in estuary streams; illustrations of material from Essex (INA).
