John et al. (2004) cite Corallina lobata J.V. Lamour. and Jania granifera Decne. as synonyms of this species. Treated as taxonomically valid by Athanasiadis (2016: 343).

Distributional notes
Guiry (1997) note that reports from the British Isles, as Corallina granifera, are incorrect, and refers to Irvine & Chamberlain, (1994). Northern limit is probably Portugal.
