Womersley (1994: 204) notes that the original publication of the name Nemastoma intestinalis according to Chapman & Parkinson (1974: 246) is by Hooker & Harvey (1845: 521), but the "Algae Novae Zelandiae" paper of Hooker & Harvey does not mention this species, which was described as new by Harvey in 1855b. Womersley cites the authority for Grateloupia intestinalis as (Harvey) Setchell ex Parkinson in Chapman & Parkinson 1974: 246. Hommersand et al. (2010: 559) cite (Harvey) Parkinson in V.J.
