Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyosphaerium is Dictyosphaerium ehrenbergianum Nägeli.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hindakia fallax (Komárek) C.Bock, Proschold & Krienitz.

Type Information
Type locality: "In plancto lacubus, stagnis piscinisque eutrophicis prope Habana, Cuba" [Havana, Cuba]; (Komárek 1983: 174) Iconotypus pl. 6: fig. 15: (Komárek 1983: 174) Notes: Lectotype necessarily designated by Bock et al. (2010: 271) as a single elments was designated in the original publication. Epitype: Material from the strain CCAP 222/29 cryopreserved at the culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban, Scotland.
