The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halosaccion is Halosaccion hydrophorum (Postels & Ruprecht) Kützing.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
"Thallus is saccular, broadly oval, up to 9 cm high and up to 6 cm wide, with a rounded apex and wedge-shaped base, is attached to the substrate by a disk, red-brown, does not fade. It differs from other species of the genus Halosaccion by the presence on the surface of the thallus of various forms of irregularities (lumpy swellings and depressions). It grows in the littoral zone, in littoral pools near the Kuril, Commander and Aleutian Islands, and is considered a representative of the island flora. It was found near Starichkov Island (Eastern Kamchatka). Samples from Matua Island are very large." (Lopatina & Zhigadlova 2020: 391, in Russian).
