Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella flagellata (Børgesen) I.A.Abbott.

Type locality: Flat Island, Mauritius; (Silva & al. 1996: 381) Lectotype: ‘dredged at a depth of 30 fathoms’; Børgesen’s original illustrations (Athanasiadis 1996: 107) Notes: Type: tetrasporophyte; 16 Sept 1925, C809, slide (Cormaci & Furnari 1988). Holotype: C (Schneider, 1984).
