This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kallymenia reniformis (Turner) J.Agardh
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), kidney-shaped (Stearn 1973).

Turner (1809: 110) refers to a Miss Evrett finding the plants depicted by him as fig. a cast up on the Isle of Wight after a storm. However, the illustration given by Turner suggests quite a different plants to those figured in his fig. b and g (var. tenuior), and may represent the entity now known as Meredithia microphylla , particularly fig. a (bis, bottom left).
This is a marine species.
Syntype localities: "Among the rejectamenta of the sea at Niton, Isle of Wight, Miss E. Everett; On the shore at Budleigh [Salterton, Devon] Mrs. Griffiths; Gathered in Cornwall by Mr. Rashleigh." (Turner 1808-1809: 110). Lectotype: BM-K Notes: The Budleigh Salterton specimen was chosen by J. Agardh as lectotype.
