This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Acanthoceras.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Ceramium shuttleworthianum (Kützing) Rabenhorst

This is a marine species.

Type information
Type locality: an den irischen Küsten: Shuttleworth! [Ireland] (Kützing 1842: 739). Lectotype: Shuttleworth; L 940.265.127 (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 72). Notes: No more precise locality is known in Ireland, although Shuttleworth is known to have been in Renvyl, Co. Galway in July, 1832 (M.E. Mitchell, pers. comm., Nov. 2001). He appears to have sent several Irish specimens to Kützing.
