The type species (holotype) of the genus Diadesmis is Diadesmis confervacea Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Humidophila comperei (Le Cohu & Van de Vijver) Lowe, Kociolek, Johansen, Van de Vijver, Lange-Bertalot & Kopalová.
