Type locality: "Peach creek", near College Park, south of College Station, Texas, USA; (Nozaki et al 2006: 1079) Holotype: Franklyn D. Ott; 1976; Small muddy stream; National Science Museum (Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan; TNS-AL 161062 (Nozaki et al 2006: 1079) Notes: Holotype: Resin-embedded material of strain RT. The culture has been deposited as UTEX 2804 in the Culture Collection of Algae at the University of Texas at Austin.

General Environment
This is a freshwater species.

Description
Colony ovoid or ellipsoidal, composed of 16 or 32 biflagellate cells arranged at the periphery of the gelatinous matrix, measuring up to 110 microns long. Gelatinous matrix of colony often wavy. Sixteen- or 32-celled colony containing four or 12 small somatic cells in the anterior portion of colony. Somatic cells subspherical or nearly lenticular, having a cup-shaped chloropast with a single pyrenoid, measured up to 13 microns in diameter. Reproductive cells subspherical or spherical, having a cup-shaped chloroplast with a single large pyrenoid, measured up to 18 microns in diameter. Asexual reproduction by autocolony formation; each reproductive cell forming a daughter colony after inversion. Sexual reproduction anisogamous with bundles of male gametes.
