The type species (holotype) of the genus Trentepohlia is Trentepohlia aurea (Linnaeus) C.Martius.

General environment
This is a terrestrial species.

Description
Crustose alga, forming red patches on walls. Prostrate part crustose, pseudoparenchymatous, formed by many mixed filaments. Erect axes short, consisting of 3-6 cells, 50-200 microns tall. Cells of the prostrate part elliptical or globular, 10-13 microns wide; cells of the erect axes cylindrical, 7-12.5 microns wide. Zoosporangia globular, 15-22 microns wide, produced at the top of the erect axes. Gametangia not observed.

Holotype locality: Zone Industrielle, Collery Marengo, French Guiana (Rindi & López-Bautista 2007: 704). Holotype: F. Rindi; 21 June 2006; on painted concrete wall, near external fan of air-conditioning system. US (Rindi & López-Bautista 2007: 704). Notes: Isotype: GALW.
