The type species (holotype) of the genus Synura is Synura uvella Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Synura praefracta (Asmund) Skaloud & Skaloudová.

Type locality: Alaska: near Anchorage; (Index Nominum Algarum) Type: 5.xii.1957; C; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Skaloud et al. (2020: 582) note that the holotype is currently lost and they designate an epitype: strain 17 permanently cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state in CAUP as TYPE-B714.
