This is a marine species.
Description
Thalli forming tufts and mats, composed of erect, often arcuate axes, 5-8 cm high from creeping axes attached to substrate by small clumps of independent rhizoids, light to dark brown with yellow to orange iridescence in shallow waters; main axes, 500-650 µm in diameter, cylindrical to compressed, bearing slender unilateral branchlets 200-400 µm in diameter, with numerous surface hairs distally; gametophytes unknown; tetrasporangial sori in the distal ends of lateral branchlets, tetrasporangia borne on inner cortical cells, mostly tetrahedrally arranged, 37-48 µm long by 22-28 µm wide.
Habitat
Plants were found in tidal pools 0-1 m deep or intertidally and were attached on rocky reefs in association with G. acerosa and Gelidium spp. Collections were made seasonally from late autumn to late summer (October-August) when seawater temperatures in Taiwan range from 18° to 25°C.
