Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Pterosiphonia complanata (Clemente) Falkenberg
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), flattened out, usually in one plane (Stearn 1973).
