The type species (holotype) of the genus Melobesia is Melobesia membranacea (Esper) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Heteroderma subtilissimum (Foslie) Foslie.

Type locality: W. coast of New Guinea; (Index Nominum Algarum) Holotype: Growing on Corallina pilifera; L; 941.98-194 (Verheij & Woelkerling 1992: 287) Notes: Reef (INA). From Papua (Chamberlain 1983: 312). Holotype fragment in TRH (TRH A16-1012; Woelkering et al. 2005: 141).
