The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ballia scoparia var. ramulosa (Hooker f. & Harvey) Hariot.

Adjective (Latin), in the form of a broom; fastigiate (Stearn 1973).
