General Environment
This is a freshwater species.
Description
Valves lanceolate to linear-lanceolatewith convex margins and broadly rounded apices. Smaller valves tending to become more elliptic-lanceolate. Valve length 19–29 µm, valve width 6.5–8.0 µm. Axial area rather wide, linear, forming a large hyaline area bordering the raphe branches, widening near the apices. Central area rectangular to slightly wedge-shaped forming a stauros bordered on both sides by one row of rounded marginal areolae. One more or less circular stigma present, rather isolated in between the central raphe endings and the valve face margin. Raphe branches straight. Central raphe endings distinctly deflected opposite to the stigma, bent with simple central pores. Terminal raphe fissures clearly elongated, first weakly deflected towards the same side as the central endings, then rather straight towards the valve apices, terminating well after the final row of areolae. Transapical striae radiate throughout, 20–22 in 10 µm. Striae ending at some distance before the valve apices leaving a rather large hyaline area at the valve apices; each stria consisting of two to three small, rounded areolae. Marginal areolae larger and near the central area weakly transapically elongated. The internal structures could not be observed.
