This is a marine species.
Type locality: Sinnamary, NW of Cayenne, French Guiana (Lipkin & Silva 2002: 30). Holotype: Leprieur; 20 November 1841; PC (Womersley 2003: 25). Notes: Yoshida (1998: 967) notes that the type is in herb. Montagne, PC. Isotype: LD 31909-12 (Post, 1936: 52). Kamiya et al. (2003:494) give the following data: French Guiana, near Cayenne (lectotype of C. leprieurii, L0055717). Silva (2004: 556) designated lectotype: mouth of Sinnamary River, French Guiana, Leprieur 356 (PC: Herb. Thuret-Bornet TA 22509/22510). Krayesky et al. (2011: 47) follow the selection of Kamiya et al. (2003) because they maintain it was validly designated.
