Distributional note
Although both Cystoseira discors and Cystoseira ercegovicii are currently treated as synonyms of Cystoseira schiffneri, it is very unlikely that the numerous Mediterranean records of these entities refer to the autonym C. schiffneri v. schiffneri; for Italy the only confirmed record of C. schiffneri v. schiffneri are those from the Stagnone di Marsala, Sicily (Furnari et al., 1999). Very probably most Mediterranean records of Cystoseira discors and Cystoseira ercegovicii must be referred to the widespread form “tenuiramosa”. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
