Origin of species name
Adjective A (Latin), saggitate, shaped like an arrow-head with two equal sharp basal lobes directed downwards (Stearn 1973).

Woelkerling & De Reviers (2008: 304) concluded that "Lamouroux based Corallina sagittata on material from ''!'!le-de -France" (= Mauritius). The protologue is commonly cited (e.g. Johansen, 1977: 178, Silva et al., 1996: 229, Kim et al., 2007: 1317) as occurring in Quoy & Gaimard (1824-1826: 625), but our evidence suggests that it first appeared in Lamouroux et al. Type locality: Île-de-France [Mauritius] (Lamouroux, Bory de Saint-Vincent & Eudes-Deslongchamps 1824: 215). Holotype: CN herb. Lamouroux (Woelkerling & de Reviers, 2008: 305, fig. 2). Notes: Holotype is illustrated in Woelkerling & de Reviers (2008: fig. 2).
