The type species (lectotype) of the genus Muelleria is Muelleria linearis (O.Müller) Frenguelli.

Type Information
Type locality: Near Crater Lake, Deception Island, South Shetland Islands; (Van de Vijver et al. 2010: 33) Holotype: 14 February 2002; Dark soil sample from a steep slope, disturbed by past volcanic eruptions; a typical, slightly acid Antarctic mineral soil with low organic matter and nutrient concentrations, built up by loamy sand with a low percentage of coarser particles; contains several species of Luticola such as L. gigantimuticopsis and L. caubergsii and Stauroneis latistauros, Hantzschia hyperborea and Chamaepinnularia krookiformis; National Botanic Garden, Meise, Belgium; BR-4151 (Van de Vijver et al. 2010: 33, 35) Notes: Isotype: PLP-126 (UA, University of Antwerp, Belgium), BRM-ZU6/97 (Hustedt Collection, Bremerhaven, Germany).
