Type locality: Wistari Reef, southern Great Barrier Reef, Queensland, Australia (Kraft 2009: 336). Holotype: R.W. Ricker & G. Norbury; 22 Nov. 1982; 9 m, on encrusting coralline algae along the central NE reef slope. MELU KA-00355 (Kraft 2009: 336). Notes: Epitype (designated by Vieira et al. 2016: 700): Australia, Lord Howe Island, G.W. Saunders GWS022754 (UNB); "Because the holotype of Lobophora rickeri at MELU was kept in formaldehyde, impeding DNA sequencing, and due to cryptic diversity, the type material associated with this name is demonstrably ambiguous and cannot be critically identified. It is therefore necessary to select an epitype, which is consistent with the original description and material of this name."
