Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Siderocelis is Siderocelis minor (Naumann) Fott.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Amphikrikos hexacosta (R.H.Thompson) Hindák.
General Environment
This is a freshwater species.
Description
Cells elliposoidal, 7-13 µm long and 6-9 µm wide. Apical verrucae are small and hemispherical. The equatorial verrucae are elongate and prominent. Reproduction is by 4-8 autospores. The median elongate verrucae distinguish this species from all other described forms.
