Type locality: Lake Stechlin, Germany; (Krienitz et al. 2011: 104) Holotype: Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, Oban , Scotland; cryopreserved material of the authentic strain CCAP 260/14 (Krienitz et al. 2011: 103) Notes: Isotype: an air-dried and a formaldehyde-fixed sample of strain CCAP 260/14, deposited at the Botanical Museum at Berlin-Dahlem (B40 0040684). Iconotype: Fig. 11 (Krienitz et al. 2011).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), almost circular, with length breadth ration of about 6 to 5 (Stearn 1973).
