The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cosmarium is Cosmarium undulatum Corda ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cosmarium ungerianum var. nodosum (Borge) Lütkemüller .
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), knotted, knobbly (Stearn 1973).
