The type species (holotype) of the genus Leptolyngbya is Leptolyngbya boryana (Gomont) Anagnostidis & Komárek.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Trichocoleus badius (J.R.Johansen & R.L.Lowe) Mühlsteinová, J.R.Johansen & Pietrasiak.
