The type species (holotype) of the genus Pseudomuriella is Pseudomuriella aurantiaca (W.Vischer) N.Hanagata.

Description
Cells small, spherical, 415( 22) µm in diameter. Single bilobed parietal chloroplast in young cells; multiple parietal chroroplasts in older cells. Pyrenoids absent. Wall smooth, somewhat thickened in aging cells. Cells producing droplets of oil at first colorless, later orange. Cells often possessing a large vacuole. Old cultures (> 2 months) orange or reddish in color. Reproduction by division into 24(16) autospores. Autospores 2.74 µm in diameter, often remaining in maternal wall. Zoospores or sexual reproduction not observed.
